The biological research institute Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn in Naples was founded in 1872 by the German zoologist Anton Dohrn and is known for its research primarily in marine botany, biological oceanography, and evolutionary biology. The footage shows the optic nerves of an octopus filmed through a high-tech microscope belonging to the institute. The work examines the use of film and photography in biological science. At the same time, the connection between biology and photography is highlighted in the form of experiments with animal gelatine applied onto the film.
